Types of Leave Employees are entitled to

Going on leave is essential for our physical and mental well being. It provides opportunity for employees to bond with their family bonding and also encourages employees to indulge in their hobbies.

For an employer, it reduces absenteeism, friction in work place and promotes Team bonding

Organisations worldwide offers different types of leave to employees, some are paid, unpaid or half paid.

Just what type of Leave/ Holidays are you entitled to in a year as an employee?

  • Compassionate Leave: Granted on compassionate grounds [5-7 days]
  • Menstrual Leave: Days granted women who suffer extreme period pain. [usually 2-3 days applicable in Japan, Taiwan, Zambia, Indonesia, South Korea.]
  • Casual Leave: When something urgent comes up and you have expended your annual leave
  • Annual Leave: A period you take off to Rest and to refresh. Some are 15,17,20,21 or 24 days ‘[ depends on your level at work]
  • Maternity Leave:  When you are pregnant and due for delivery. Some get up to 3 to 6months [subject to your company policies]
  • Paternity Leave: Period granted Men when their partners put to bed to take care and run around for them. Usually between 5 and 14days
  • Temporary Disability Leave: If you are involved in an accident especially at work, you will be entitled to 3months full paid leave, after 3 months it become half pay, after 6 months, most organisation will be left with no choice than to let go if such staff is not getting better.
  • Leave of Absence: When you are invaluable, Your organisation can approve of your leave without pay to embark on further studies or take up a Government appointment.
  • Sick Leave: This is usually for not more than 5 to 15 days and of which you will provide medical advice to your employer.
  • Public Holidays: As approved by the Government which covers National and Religious holidays.

Please note that these statutory leave and allowances are dependent on your workplace policy.
