This is what you should do;
- Make sure you tie up loose ends before you proceed else you will be dragged back during emergencies, delegate unfinished tasks for continuity, do a proper document that keeps the system going in your absence.
- Shut down on office completely, set up voicemail and out of office mail, except you don’t trust the capacity of who you are handing over to. Even at that, make it a habit to delegate.
- Add at least a day or two to gradually prepare for work upon return from vacation/leave.
- Your well being matters, do what makes you happy to ease you into work mood. For me? I do a bit of shopping[Crazy color few new clothes] Great Hairstyle, and a souvenir to remind me of how my vacation went.
- Have an early night a day before resumption so that you wont burn out quickly on your first day.
- Your first day at work should not really be full work, take your time, maybe do a bit on responding to your mails and enquiries.
- Do not be too quick to assume your responsibility from those you handed over to, gradually ease into your job roles.
- Holiday is over, avoid social distraction, you had enough time to indulge during the holidays.
- If you ask for your leave days, don’t convert it for something else because you actually need the period to help relax your physical, emotional, mental and creative capacity.
- Make going on leave a habit because, if anything untoward happens to you, the business will continue, someone else will take your place. Once you realize no one is indispensable, you will take care of yourself.
