Dealing with forced decisions at work

Recently, I was with some of my fellow Station Managers at a meeting. Shortly before we went in, a woman came out and as she approached us,I recognised her instantly and I whispered to the closest person to me: ” I am in trouble, I fired this woman barely 2months after she started working with my office”. I was waiting to be slapped or insulted but none came, only cold treatment and I understood. I told my colleague: ” She was reading 6PM news when one of my superiors back then was cruising into town. He was a no nonsense Boss and as he got to the station he said who ever read that news should be taken out immediately. My hands were tied, if only she stayed and do her editing chores without struggling or forcing herself to be on air.
Now how was I supposed to tell her what played out behind her back? I couldn’t cos it’s part of my JD. If you were in my shoes, what would you have done?
This particular incident triggered memories of my experience and sojourn in the media in the last 25 years..
I plan to share all of them, I mean all of them with time, so watch out for my diary….
I am sure you will see the other side of me, pick one lesson or the other as you grow in your career.
