Efunsetan Aniwura is the second Iyalode of Ibadanland
She was born in the 1790s in Egbaland, Ogun State before migrating to Ibadan where she settled down and became prominent.
She was a successful Business woman who deals in Tobacco and Slave Trade. She was said to have had about 2000 slaves and several farms where she exports agricultural products outside Ibadan
Efunsetan was unsuccessful in marriage as all attempts failed and she also lost her only child at birth which resulted in her instituting death penalty for anyone in her household who gets pregnant.
Politically, she was a very strong High Chief in Ibadanland which made her had consistent running battles with the Aare On a Kakanfo Latosa.
She was deposed as Iyalode by Aare Latosa on May 1,1874 even after paying all the fines levied against her.
Her inability to have a child made her adopt a son – Kumuyilo who betrayed her by instructing slaves to kill Efunsetan in her sleep in 1874.
Efunsetan was not a happy woman despite her wealth and this was evident in her style of leadership
On a good note, She was said to have been made a Patron of the Anglican for her involvement in strengthening in the Community.
