The last few years have seen us stuck with the information that our attention span reduced from even 10 seconds to 8 seconds. Its all over the place and because of that many has been placed under perpetual laziness. Even the patience to read through documents, books and even posts of 10 paragraphs these days have become herculean task.
Let us ask ourselves if truly our attention span is reduced:
- How do we end up spending not less than 30 minutes on social media?
- Why do we spend hours watching football matches from one club to the other?
- What of Netflix and Zeeworld?

Psychologists have proven that short attention span is your body’s response to stress or stimulation. For some it could be depression, anxiety, dyslexia or even trauma.
Truth is : our attention is task dependent, what ever we do that tickles our fancy is capable of making us linger for a longer time.
Just How do we increase you increase your attention span?
- Find a way to make your tasks interesting and enjoyable.
- Restrict your schedule at work, take a break from time to time so you can return afresh.
- Take care of yourself, have a good night sleep so that your mind can be re-freshen
- Avoid multitasking completely, put together your to do list and accomplish each task one after the other. you will see how much you have achieved thereafter.
- Identify your major priorities and give them the desired attention.
- Remove distractions: mute your gadgets or keep them away from you. Try using Laptop instead of phone, to minimize distraction. Put your phone on dnd if you must use it.
- Master your triggers and you will successfully keep them in check.
- Be intentional about improving your attention span and you will succeed.
