Often times many of us get worked up because of added tasks assigned to our portfolio by our superiors which in turn may turn to nightmare if not well managed.
You have hardly finished one and another is being added to your tasks and it becomes overwhelming.
Just how do you plan to get over this?
I have put together some tips to help . it has worked for many especially me and you may find this useful.
- Work Smart: Create a Schedule and set a deadline to them. Set a to do list and do them one after the other starting with the most difficult. As you do them, tick your list. You will be amazed at your efficiency.
- Start Early: the earlier you get cracking on assigned tasks, the better you finish on time. It is important to overcome procrastination to succeed.
- Identify your Productive Hours: For me I function better from 5pm to 8pm. That is the time I do creative work while in the office. But at home? 3am to 5am is a better time and of course I catch some sleep to make up for the deprived sleep hours. Identify the time that works better for you.
- Handle your Stress : Know when to go on break to protect your mental health. This is very important. I know my body signs and when there is a trigger, I leave EVERYTHING and shut down.
- Avoid Distractions: Many of them are capable of making you fail. Be firm when attending to colleagues especially when you have deadlines to beat, learn to say no when you are being tempted from your tasks, stay away from computers and phones especially if you are not using them for the particular tasks. [You will thank me later]
- Focus on result driven activities: why would you drink when you will end up with hangover that will eventually affect your productivity! Why would any one embark on a fruitless journey that will not add any value to you?
- Delegate or Outsource: There are some tasks that is not peculiar to one person. Why not delegate someone else to do it and focus more on strategic tasks? Outsource if need be!
- Avoid multitasking: I was so sure I could do this until every thing remained half done! Finish one task after the other. Many of us are guilty!
- Review and Review: Its important to review your activities each day, compensate your self with a massage or a glass of wine if you accomplished your task. If you didn’t ,don’t be hard on yourself, identify the cause and get rid of it.
