Career Woman and The Kitchen

Breakfast of Veggies in Tortilla Wrap

Many women due to our culture and upbringing often find it difficult to joggle between your responsibility as either a Mother, Wife, daughter and our career.

One of such perceived responsibilities is cooking. You will be amazed to know that some career women still go home to cook fresh soup everyday for their family. Did I hear you say What!!!! Yes.. its true.

Some have perfected the art of outsourcing their cooking to reputable caterers who supply the basic soups and stews on a monthly basis.

Some have Cooks/Chefs at home doing the chores making it easier for them. Some people like me are passionate and except I break down or want to hangout with friends, I will rather cook my meals.

So how do I cope? Let me share few with you.

I form the habit of massive cooking once a month. I am lucky to enjoy and pay for electricity though, so I do all my shopping at once which is also quite cost effective.

For  my stew, I  prepare one big pot with no protein inside and keep it by the side. Then boil the chicken, goat meat etc, portion them in their bowls and pour the stew on them according to their portion. When its cool, I store in the freezer. For  swallow, I prepare all soups, Ewedu, Ogbono, Okro, Egusi, Vegetables and Gbegiri  and portion them just as I do the stew. Whenever I need any of them, I bring them out in the morning and allow them defreeze naturally and its as fresh as I cooked it when i warm it for the meal .

For beans, I boil in large quantity up to 80%  and portion it without salt or seasoning. You will love the finished product whenever you chose to eat it either with bread, yam, rice etc I do this for breakfast as well. I peel Beans and portion in the freezer for days I want bean cakes for breakfast. Trust me it is ready in 10mins! I keep Moinmoin in small quantity because experience has proven it loses its tastes if kept for too long.

For breakfast, I endeavour to make sure I have someTortilla Wraps at home for either veggies or eggs . Same for Oats.

You can actually plan your cooking like me and have peace when you get home from work. It makes it easy for your hubby, partner or even children to sort themselves out before you come back from work.

You have those who cant cook at home? Simple! always have jollof Rice  as stop gap solution in the fridge on weekly basis. There are some soups I cant cook and I outsource them like Afang, Banga etc. Don’t mind me I love food

Note: this is for people like me who love cooking, I do this one weekend and the rest is easy which enables me focus on other things. If you don’t like cooking, please explore other options available to you. Do you have any other hack available for my kitchen use?
